Composition and pharmacological properties.

1 ml contains an active ingredient (oxytetracycline dihydrate –200 mg), as well as excipients.
It is a tetracycline antibacterial drug. Oxytetracycline dihydrate with broad-spectrum antibacterial action combats most of gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms including Escherichia (E. coli), Salmonella (Salmonella spp.), Pasteurella (Pasteurella spp.), Bordetella (Bordetella bronchisepti ca), Staphylococci (Staphylococcus spp.), Streptococci (Streptococcus spp.), Actinomyces
(Actinomyces pyogenes), as well as several species of Rickettsiae, Сhlamydia, protozoans (Protozoa) and large viruses; it has no effect on Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Proteus.
After intramuscular administration oxytetracycline is rapidly absorbedin the injection site with further penetration into most of organs and tissues. The peak blood concentration of the antibiotic is achieved
in 30-60 minutes and remains at therapeutic level for 3-4 days after a single administration. The antibiotic is, mainly, excreted in urine and partially in feces, as well as in milk of lactating animals.
 

Indications

To treat pigs, cattle, sheep and goats with acute and chronic diseases of respiratory system, urogenital system, gastrointestinal tract, locomotor apparatus and skin; colibacillosis, salmonellosis, pasteurellosis, gastroenterocolitis, mastitis; surgical, wound and puerperal complications; other primary and secondary bacterial infections whose agents are susceptible to tetracyclines.

Contraindications

Individual hypersensitivity to the drug components. Do not use in animals with frank renal and hepatic dysfunctions, growers during teeth development period, females within last months of pregnancy,
as well as in other species of animals.

Dosage and administration

Single deep intramuscular administration; dose – 1 ml per 10 kg of body weight (equivalent to 20 mg of oxytetracycline per 1 kg of body weight). If necessary, administer the drug again in 72 hours.
Piglets weighed less than 10 kg: maximum single dose is 1 ml/animal.
Piglets with atrophic rhinitis: 1 ml/animal in 3, 12 and 21 days postpartum.
Lambs with necrobacillosis and rickettsial disease: 2 ml/animal.
Due to potential pain reaction, maximum volume of the drug to be administered in the same site is 20 ml (cattle), 10 ml (pigs) and 5 ml (sheep, goats and calves).
Typically, Oxitron 200 is administered in a single dose

Adverse events

Occasional local reaction (i.e., edema) may be observed in the injection site. In several days it disappears spontaneously without using medications. Individual hypersensitivity to tetracyclines and allergic reactions require the drug withdrawal and desensitizing therapy. In case of anaphylaxis, administer adrenalin, corticosteroids and antihistaminic drugs according with corresponding package inserts.

Special warnings

Pigs, cattle, sheep and goats can be slaughtered for meat in 28 days after the last drug administration. Milk is esculent in 7 days after the
drug administration.
