Composition and pharmacological properties.
Each Flyblock insecticidal tag contains s-fenvalerate - 4.0%, piperonyl butoxide - 8.0% as active ingredients, as well as excipients.
Flyblock insecticidal tags belong to the group of combined insecticide-repellent drugs. S-fenvalerate (Aα-fenvalerate-(S)-3-methyl-2-(4-chlorophenyl) butyric acid (S)-α-cyano-3-phenoxybenzyl ether) is a synthetic pyrethroid; it has a strong insecticidal and repellent effect against diptera insects, including horseflies, gadflies and zoophilic flies (housefly, stable fly, Haematobia irritans), lice, chewing lice, sarcoptoid and ixodic ticks. The mechanism of action of s-fenvalerate is based on the alteration of the metabolism of sodium and potassium ions in the presynaptic membrane, which leads to excessive release of acetylcholine during the transmission of nerve impulses through the synaptic chain, causing paralysis and death of insects and ticks.
Piperonyl butoxide (5-[2-(2-butoxyethoxy) ethoxymethyl]-6-propyl-1,3-benzodioxol) is an inhibitor of insect enzymes - monooxygenases and carboxyesterases - involved in the detoxification of insecticides. Piperonyl butoxide improves the penetration of s-fenvalerate through the insect cuticle; by blocking insect defense systems, it enhances the insecticide-repellent effect of the tag.
Through gradual detachment from the surface of the plate, the active components migrate to the skin and hair and are distributed throughout the animal's body, causing the death of insects and ticks upon their contact with the hair. Strong adhesion of the components of the medicinal product with the secretion of the sebaceous glands allows to establish long-term insecticidal, repellent effect and high resistance to atmospheric precipitation. The prolonged-release form provides protection of animals during the pasture season.
S-fenvalerate mainly acts as contact insectoacaricide and also has a repellent effect. The death of insects and ticks occurs only after contact with the animal's body, so the presence of insects and ticks on animals with tags is allowed, but insects and ticks do not attack and parasitize less than usual due to the repellent effect of the drug.
Indications for use.
Flyblock insecticidal tag is used in cattle for protection against diptera insects on pastures and farms during the active summer period. Flyblock insecticidal tags ensure protection against insects for up to 5 months. Flyblock insecticidal tags are applied to the entire herd of animals at the beginning of the season before the development of the insect population. It is enough to apply one tag to the animal's ear; in case of a large amount of flies - one tag to each ear.
Contraindications.
Contraindication to use is the individual hypersensitivity of the animal to the components of the drug.
Method of administration.
The product is intended for external use only. Fix the animal and apply the tag to the front of the ear in the following order:
- place a tag with a lock in the fastening device;
- place the tip of the fixing device in the middle, in the area between the 2nd and 3rd veins of the hard ear tissue;
- press the handle of the applicator sharply until it clicks. A properly applied tag is firmly fixed. The loss of a tag in an animal is the result of its inappropriate application.
In case of loss of the Flyblock insecticidal tag in an animal, a new tag can be applied to the hole from the previous one.
It is not recommended to fix the tag on thick areas of the ear, in the area of large vessels. Flyblock insecticidal tags are removed at the end of the fly activity season and before transfer for slaughter. To remove a tag, cut off the pin of the fastening device.
Special warnings.
Flyblock insecticidal tag can be safely used in lactating animals, as well as in young cattle. In pregnant females Flyblock insecticidal tags are used, if necessary, after consultation with a veterinarian.
Flyblock insecticidal tags can be used to protect livestock kept at feedlots or indoors from insects. Signs of overdose have not been registered. Specific effects after first administration and withdrawal have not been established. Flyblock insecticidal tags are intended for permanent use during the season of activity of diptera insects.
Side effects.
Flyblock insecticidal tags when used in accordance with this instruction usually does not cause side effects or complications. Rarely, in animals with individual hypersensitivity to s-fenvalerate or piperonyl butoxide, adverse reactions are possible (excessive salivation, lacrimation, adynamia, dermal irritation and allergic reactions). In these cases, by the decision of the veterinarian, the use of Flyblock insecticidal tags in a particular animal is discontinued and symptomatic treatment is carried out.
Withdrawal period.
Slaughter of animals for meat is allowed without restrictions. Flyblock insecticidal tags should be removed before transfer to slaughter. Milk is allowed to be used for food without restrictions.
Storage.
The product is stored in a closed original package in a dry place protected from direct sunlight, without contact with food and feed, at 2 °C to 25 °C. The shelf life of the product stored under appropriate conditions is 4 years from the date of manufacture.
