Chemical composition and pharmacological properties
Doxitron chewable tablets contain doxycycline as an active substance (in the form of a hiclate) - in one tablet 20 mg and 100 mg, respectively, as well as auxiliary substances: lactose, microcrystalline cellulose, potato starch, calcium stearate, silicon dioxide colloidal, an additive with the taste and aroma of fresh meat.
Doxycycline hyclate, which is part of the drug, belongs to the semi-synthetic antibiotics of the third generation of the tetracycline group. It has a wide spectrum of antimicrobial action against mycoplasmas, spirochaetes, chlamydia, rickettsias, is active against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms, including: Actinomyces spp.. Bacillus anthracis, Brucella spp., Bartonella spp., Corynebacterium spp., Clostridium spp., Citrobacter, Erysipelothrix spp., Eikenella spp., Enterococcus spp., Enterobacteria spp., Escherichia coli, Erlichia spp., Fusobacterium spp.. Listeria spp., Moraxella spp., Pseudomonas spp., Pasteurella spp., Proteus mirabilis, Staphylococcus spp.. Streptococcus spp.. Indications for use
Doxitron chewable tablets are prescribed to cats and dogs for therapeutic purposes in diseases of the respiratory system (rhinitis, tonsillitis, bronchopneumonia), genitourinary system (cystitis, pyelonephritis, prostatitis, endometritis), skin (purulent dermatitis, abscesses) and other associated infections caused by pathogens sensitive to doxycycline.Contraindications
Contraindications to the use of the drug are increased individual sensitivity of the animal to the components of the drug and antibiotics of the tetracycline group (including in the anamnesis), pronounced violations of liver and / or kidney function. Do not use the drug to puppies and kittens during the development of teeth.Pregnant and lactating animals, Doxitron chewable tablets are used under the supervision of the attending veterinarian, since with systemic absorption, the drug can cause disorders in the development of fetal bone tissue.
Doxitron chewing tablets should not be used together with bactericidal antibiotics of the penicillin and cephalosporin groups (due to a possible decrease in antibacterial activity), with medications and feed additives containing calcium, magnesium, iron and aluminum salts, barbiturates and phenytoin (due to a possible deterioration in absorption).
Doxitron chewable tablets are not intended for use by productive animals.
Dosage and administration
Doxitron chewable tablets are prescribed to animals individually, orally (orally) in a mixture with feed or forcibly given to the root of the tongue once a day at a dose of 10 mg of doxycycline per 1 kg of animal weight (1 tablet containing 20 mg of doxycycline is designed for 2 kg of animal body weight, 1 tablet containing 100 mg of doxycycline - for 10 kg of mass). Doxitron chewable tablets should be used during or immediately after feeding. The course of treatment for acute diseases is 3-5 days, for chronic diseases — 8-10 days.
According to the prescription of the attending veterinarian, the dosage and duration of use of the drug can be increased.
Violations of the drug regimen should be avoided, as this may lead to a decrease in therapeutic efficacy. If the next dose is missed, the use of the drug should be resumed at the same dose and according to the same scheme.
Adverse events
When using the drug in accordance with this instruction, side effects and complications in animals, as a rule, are not observed. With increased individual sensitivity to tetracyclines and the occurrence of allergic reactions, the use of the drug is discontinued and antihistamines and symptomatic therapy are prescribed to the animal.
During tetracycline therapy after exposure to intense ultraviolet light, the animal may experience vomiting, esophagitis and diarrhea.
In case of an overdose of a drug, an animal may experience vomiting, refusal of food, impaired coordination of movement. In this case, it is necessary to stop using the drug and prescribe symptomatic therapy.
