Chemical composition and pharmacological properties

1 ml contains imidocarb dipropionate - 120 mg (as an active ingredient).
Mechanism of imidocarb dipropionate antiprotozoal action is related to inositol delivery inhibition which is necessary for hematozoon life activity and impairment of polyamine formation used by parasites.

Imidocarb dipropionate obtains therapeutic blood concentration in 18-24 hours after parenteral administration. It remains at pyroplasmosis level within 4-6 weeks. Mainly, imidocarb dipropionate accumulates in liver and kidneys; it is generally excreted in urine.

Indications

Use for treatment and prevention of blood protozoan diseases (acute, chronic and subclinical babesiosis, anaplasmosis and nuttalliosis), as well as combined invasions in horses, cattle and sheep. Babezan 12% solution for injections is also used in canine babesiosis.

Contraindications

Increased individual sensitivity to the drug components. Do not use the drug within 4 weeks after immunization with living vaccines against babesiosis or anaplasmosis.
It is not allowed to use Babezan 12% solution for injections in combination with organochloride and organophosphate drugs, as well as with other cholinesterase inhibitors.

Dosage and administration

Cattle, sheep and horses - single intramuscular administration in dose of 2.5 mg of imidocarb per 1 kg of body weight (2.0 ml of the drug per 100 kg of body weight) to treat babesiosis or nuttalliosis. This dose may be increased to 5 mg of imidocarb per 1 kg of body weight (4.0 ml of the drug per 100 kg of body weight) to treat anaplasmosis or combined blood protozoan diseases (anaplasmosis and babesiosis).

Prevention of attack (or threat of attack) of ticks (blood protozoan disease agents): single intramuscular administration in dose of 2.5 ml of Babezan 12% solution for injections per 100 kg of body weight (2.5 mg of imidocarb per 1 kg of body weight).

Depending on epizootic situation and animal physiological status, protective effect remains within 30-45 days.

Due to potential pain reaction, do not administer more than 10 ml of the drug in the same site in large animals.

Dogs: single subcutaneous administration (0.03 ml per 1 kg of body weight). In case of babesia detection in blood film within 24 hours, administer the same dose of the drug.
