Chemical composition and pharmacological properties

1 ml contains colistin sulfate – 2,000,000 IU as an active ingredient. Colistin (a polypeptide antibiotic) is active against Esherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Aerobacter aerogenes, Corynebacterium diphtheriaе, Haemophilias influenzae. After oral administration colistin slightly absorbs in intestine. It is not affected by digestive enzymes obtaining high antibacterial intestinal concentration.

Indications

Use to treat and prevent pigs, broiler chickens and henny replacements with bacterial gastrointestinal infections (including salmonellosis, dysentery, colibacillosis) and others, agents of which are susceptible to colistin.

Contraindications

Increased individual sensitivity to the drug components. Do not use in combination with ampicillin, cephalosporins and aminoglycoside antibiotics.

Administration

Treatment and prevention: individual or group administration with drinking water within 3-5 days. Dosage is listed below:
piglets - 50,000 IU of colistin per 1 kg of body weight (0.25 ml per 10 kg of body weight) twice a day, 12 hours apart or once a day in daily dose of 100,000 IU of colistin per 1 kg of body weight (0.5 ml per 10 kg of body weight);
poultry - 75,000 IU of colistin per 1 kg of body weight (0.37 ml per 10 kg of body weight) or 0.25 ml per 1 l of drinking water.

Adverse events

Adverse events and complications are not generally observed in case of administration as per this package insert.

Waiting period

Piglets and poultry are allowed to be slaughtered for meat not earlier than 48 hours after the last drug administration.

Storage

Store in closed original package. Protect from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children and animals. Store separately from food and animal feeding at 5-25°С.
