Composition and pharmacological properties.

Phalena for injection as an active ingredient contains in 1 ml a maropitant (in the form of a citrate maropitant) – 10 mg, as well as auxiliary substances: sulfobutyl ether of β-cyclodextrin sodium, benzyl alcohol and water for injection.

Maropitant, which is part of the drug, is an antagonist of neurokinin receptors (NK1) and inhibits the binding of substance P (tachykinin group neuropeptide) in the central nervous system. Maropitant is effective for vomiting of central and peripheral origin.

Maropitant reaches maximum plasma concentrations 45 minutes after a single subcutaneous injection at the recommended dose of 1 mg / kg. The bioavailability of the drug is 90%. Maropitant binds to plasma proteins by more than 99%, is metabolized in the liver by cytochrome P450, and is excreted mainly in faeces.

Indications for use

Phalena for injection is used for dogs and cats to prevent vomiting of various origins.

Contraindications.

Phalena for injection is not recommended for pregnant and lactating females. It is forbidden to use dogs younger than 8 weeks of age, cats younger than 16 weeks of age, as well as animals with increased individual sensitivity to the components of the drug.

The drug should be prescribed with caution to animals with liver pathologies and heart failure.

Phalena for injection is not intended for use by productive animals.

Doses and the order of application.

Phalena for injection is administered to dogs and cats subcutaneously or intravenously at a dose of 1 mg / kg of animal weight, which is equivalent to 1 ml of the drug per 10 kg of animal weight, once a day, no more than 5 days in a row.

Skipping the next dose of the drug should be avoided, as this may lead to a decrease in effectiveness. If one or more doses of the drug are missed, the course of use must be resumed at the same dose according to the same scheme.

Side effects.

When using  Phalena for injection in accordance with this instruction, side effects and complications are usually not observed. With increased individual sensitivity to the components of the drug and the appearance of allergic reactions, its use is discontinued and antihistamines and symptomatic therapy are prescribed to the animal. When administered, a painful reaction is possible, especially in cats.

The peculiarities of the drug's action during its first use and cancellation have not been revealed.

Interaction with other medicinal substances.

Phalena for injection can be used as part of complex therapy with other pathogenetic agents. The drug should not be prescribed simultaneously with calcium channel blockers, because the maropitant has an affinity for calcium channels. Maropitant can compete with drugs that bind heavily to plasma proteins.
